No bells and whistles or link ups today, folks. Just a plain 'ole simple blog post.
I feel very blessed today. I haven't felt well all day and have been grumpy, I was sitting here at work {{bored as always}} and started reminiscing about everyone in my life and how much I have to be thankful for.
Wow, do I have a LOT to be thankful for. Family. Friends. Health. Everything that truly means anything in life. I am a rich, rich woman indeed.

I love days when you can sit back and reflect on what you have... Always make me more appreciative too....
ReplyDeleteLast time we came up to see Victoria we drove through a very disadvantaged part of Fort Worth - abandoned houses next to those with bars on the windows. Stores shut down out of business - a sad sad sight. It was a cold day and there was a young lady sitting at a bus stop in a fast food uniform smoking a cigarette with a toddler on her lap. There were people laying all over the sidewalks and she looked successful by comparison. I even saw a church that had built an iron fence just the size to park their bus inside. I suppose so people wouldn't steal it, parts or tag it etc.
ReplyDeleteI used to work in my twenties in similar neighborhoods, go into the homes and do developmental tests on the babies. As I recall life looked even more sad on the inside. Somehow 20 years of my own stresses "worried about making something of my life" had diffused these potent memories. On this shortcut via "the wrong side of the tracks" I was humbled and reminded of what I had forgotten, called to remember that it was my experience working in this social set that drove me as a single mother to "make it." I suddenly realized I had done that for myself and Victoria, but had sadly never really stopped to appreciate it. Driving through those streets, brought me an amazing appreciation for how truly fortunate I am in my life - a reminder of what being poor/destitute really is - and a renewed appreciation for my many blessings; especially my daughter. Love you Vikki!
