So this week I have been organizing my to do list and there is a lot to do! Most of my applications for admission to the theatre departments of colleges are coming up December 1st! Almost all of them require a resume, essays, and an audition video. Here are the colleges I have narrowed it down to, Ranked from last choice to first!
First up is Sam Houston State University- located in Huntsville this is where my most beloved drama teacher went to school. Pros of going here- great drama program, close to my Dad's and other family in The Woodlands and Houston. Cons- far from my Mom, best friends, and Dallas which I have grown to love so much!
The next contender is Columbia College in Chicago! This place is pretty cool. It's a college solely dedicated to the arts and has one of the best programs in the nation. Pros: It's in CHICAGO!!!! One of the most amazing theatre capitals in the US. It is also, like I said, an AMAZING program. Cons: It would cost an arm and a leg for out of state tuition and living expenses, it's VERY far away from everyone I know and love, roughly 1100 miles and 19 hours worth of driving to get there from Austin (YIKES!) It really isn't practical, but it is a dream school for me!
Next on my list is a school not very far from where I live currently, The University of Texas at Arlington. An up and coming program. Pros: It's close to where I live now (which I love!), It's a smaller program which means more attention from the teachers! Cons: It's not well known yet and may not open as many doors for me as one of the other schools I am looking in to. One more pro... how cool would it be to be a Maverick!?? Hell yes!
The runner up of today's choices is The University of Texas at Austin! My mother's Alma mater! I am from Austin so here goes the Pros: It's my hometown!! Meals from Mama once or twice a week, I'd get to see all my friends again, closer drive to Dallas than Chicago is, so I would get to see my friends up here every once in a while too. It's an AWESOME theatre program. Cons: It's in my hometown!! And anyone who knows me, knows I love my independence and experiencing new places and meeting new people.
And number one on my list of hopefuls is Texas State University in San Marcos, TX! I have always loved this school, it's my kind of place and I really would love the opportunity to go there again. Pros: One of the BEST theatre programs in Texas. Close to home still, only a 30 minute drive to see my Mama! I am familiar with the campus and have a lot of friends who already go there. Cons: None that I can think of! Except maybe the part about wanting to see new places :P
Anyway... I have a long hard couple of months worth of decisions in front of me, I have found myself praying a lot lately for God to give me a sign and point me in the direction to where I belong and I can't wait to see where I get in and what that will mean for the direction my life will be headed in 8 short months! Pray for me guys! I need all the help I can get :)
